Recreation Passport

The Recreation Passport is required for vehicle access to state parks and recreation areas, state-managed boating access sites, state forest campgrounds, thousands of miles of trails and other outdoor spaces – all year long! Learn how to get it, where it can take you and what it supports at Michigan.gov/RecreationPassport.

Hours

Open year-round, Sunday-Saturday from 5 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Park amenities

Bicycling, cross country skiing, fishing (a fishing license is required to fish in the Detroit River or any other water body on Belle Isle), picnicking, geocaching, hiking, nature programs, paddlesports, snowshoeing, swimming, tennis, and wildlife watching.

Alcohol

You may not possess or consume an alcoholic beverage at any time in the park (unless the park manager has granted written authorization through an event permit).

Pets

Pets must always be on a 6-foot leash and under an owner’s immediate control. All pet waste must be properly disposed of in trash receptacles.

Marihuana use

Michigan state law prohibits the consumption of marihuana in public places, including Michigan state parks and recreation areas.
